Hi My Name is Molly,
I’m a Kiwi and I Love our West Coast Beach’s.
Muriwai was my Favorite.
I went away over to the United Kingdom for just over 14 months and came home to find that my favorite Beach is Polluted.
I am Horrified.
As I walked along the Beach I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
There were Star fish and small Sucker Fish dead and belly-up.
The Water was Polluted with Rubbish and the Smell was not one of the Invigorating Sea Salt smell but one that Stunk.
I watched as an Asian Family gathered Oysters and Seafood from the beds and surrounding shallow pools.
When I stood there watching them I could tell that they knew that what they were doing was wrong.
The Man had a knife strapped to his leg so it was pretty obvious what he was up to.
I stood there until they left and then I went to find the Ranger but he wasn’t in.
What has happened to my Beloved Beach, why has it been allowed to become polluted?
How is in charge of looking after our Beach’s?
I would like to know who they are because they are not doing a very good job and I’d like to say that to their Face.
Piha, on the other hand is as timeless as ever and very clean and fresh.
If anyone know anything about who looks after our Beach’s and why Muriwai has been so neglected, then please let me know.
I’m open to any comments or suggestions or debates, all welcome.
Ka Pai.
